What projects has VA Projects delivered?

VA Projects acts as owner's representative on complex capital projects for zoos, churches and other mission-driven institutions in Edmonton. Three recent projects:

Hope City Church: owner's representation on a $15M church expansion and renovation

Project: A $15 million, 20,000 sq ft expansion and renovation of Hope City Church's Mill Woods campus in Edmonton: new second- and third-floor space plus main-floor renovations. Construction began in spring 2025, and the church has stayed open seven days a week throughout.

VA Projects' role: Owner's representative. Church leadership brought VA Projects in partway through the project to restore accountability and coordinate the work. VA Projects managed construction around a fully operating building and advised the owner on budget and facility-investment decisions.

Outcome: To date, VA Projects has preserved 75% of the owner's contingency and secured facility upgrades that will save the church more than $100,000 in ongoing maintenance costs, all within the original budget.

Valley Zoo Development Society: Connected Coasts conceptual design

Project: A $300,000 conceptual design phase for Connected Coasts, a proposed $150 million project drawn from the Edmonton Valley Zoo's 2025 master plan. The client was the Valley Zoo Development Society, a nonprofit.

VA Projects' role: Owner's representative. VA Projects turned part of the master plan into a design scope, tendered it to the market, and managed the design team through to Board approval.

Outcome: Design team secured within 4 weeks of tender. Conceptual design delivered on the 24-week schedule, 100% on budget, and accepted by the Board. VA Projects also secured donations from the consulting team for the Society.

Valley Zoo Development Society: Arctic Shores green roof replacement

Project: A $150,000, 400 m² replacement of the Arctic Shores green roof at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. It was built in 2011 as Edmonton's first green roof. The client was the Valley Zoo Development Society.

VA Projects' role: Owner's representative. VA Projects hired the contractor sourcing plants native to Edmonton's river valley, plus the installation and irrigation contractors. It also trained the Zoo operations team on the new irrigation system and on weed management.

Outcome: Installation delivered within the 4-week schedule, with Zoo staff trained to maintain the roof.
